Straight from Frankie's counter: what to do (and not do) before you can get a stained garment to us.
The Golden Rule: Don't Set the Stain
The faster you act, the easier a stain will come out. The main thing is to try not to set the stain — once set, it becomes much harder to remove. Heat sets most stains, so never put a stained garment in the dryer.
Blood stains
Soak in cold water, then dab with ammonia on a swab. Keep repeating until the stain fades. If the blood has dried, soak in salt water for a few hours first, then use the ammonia swab.
Delicate fabrics
Be careful with silks — test a small hidden spot first to check for color run. Stains on garments containing rayon are especially hard to remove at home.
